Why « Polyglot Programming » or « Do It Yourself Programming Languages » or « Language Oriented Programming » sucks?

Last year we saw the launch of a new Web programming language Dart – Structured Web Programming from Google. A very interesting approach to support web application development. Not so long after Go, Groovy, Ruby, Scala, << Name your DSL here >>; we see Dart. Is it a good thing to have at least one programming language to solve one problem? The answer is, like we already know, it depends.

Stay Away From “Do it Yourself”

It is your choice as to if you will try to do things yourself or allow the truly seasoned professionals to help out. Some decide that they are going to try to go it alone when they are programming something new, but this often ends up in a less than desirable place. It may even be more expensive than just hiring an expert who can help you get it programmed for you in the first place.

Differences Between Laravel and Yii

Ask any seasoned web app developer about their choice of programming language, and they are sure to mention PHP. What Is Blazor? Your Guide to Getting Started

For years now, if you wanted to write code to run in a browser, your choices were JavaScript or JavaScript. For a couple of brief periods on certain browsers, there were other languages you could use, but they weren’t significant: VBScript on IE and Dart on a special build of Chrome.

There are also languages that compile down to JavaScript (TypeScript, CoffeeScript, …), but they were still really JavaScript under the covers. The JavaScript monoculture’s days are numbered with the advent of WebAssembly (Wasm). For .NET developers, Wasm is arriving in the form of Blazor.

ASP.NET Core: Read the GPS Coordinates of a Photo

During one of my ASP.NET Core classes I made a demo about how to read GPS coordinates from photo and display location on a map. I took my favorite photo of a beer kiosk in Krakow and displayed the location of this kiosk on a map. This blog post describes my experiment on getting GPS coordinates from EXIF data in an ASP.NET Core application.

Wikipedia defines EXIF (Exchangeable image file format) as a standard that specifies the formats for images, sound, and ancillary tags used by digital cameras (including smartphones), scanners, and other systems handling image and sound files recorded by digital cameras. Most of modern devices used to take photos save meta information in EXIF format to photos. It’s great but be aware – not all people may use this information in good purposes.
