Bridor (Groupe Le Duff) soutient son développement avec l’ERP intelligent SAP S/4HANA

Pour accompagner sa transformation en acteur d’envergure mondiale, Bridor avait besoin de se doter d’un ERP moderne et de refondre ses processus métiers. Un projet de grande envergure, ayant mené à l’adoption de SAP S/4HANA et de SAP IBP.

Groupe Le Duff est un acteur français, leader de la restauration et de la boulangerie-viennoiserie. Il est présent dans 100 pays, au travers de ses 1250 restaurants et boulangeries et ses 15 sites de production. Groupe Le Duff emploie 30 000 collaborateurs, pour un chiffre d’affaires annuel dépassant les 2 milliards d’euros.

« Depuis ses débuts en 1976, le chiffre d’affaires du Groupe Le Duff a doublé tous les 5 ans, explique Ronan Le Janne, Responsable des applications de gestion (SAP, BI, SIRH…). La principale filiale du groupe est Bridor, un industriel spécialisé dans les produits de boulangerie surgelés premium, qui compte pour 45% du chiffre d’affaires du groupe. Bridor devient rapidement un acteur d’envergure mondiale, pour lequel il est stratégique de disposer d’un système d’information moderne proposant des processus capables d’accompagner cette forte croissance, organique comme externe. »

Groupe Le Duff utilise des solutions SAP depuis 2002. L’ERP SAP ECC de Bridor, souffrait toutefois de son manque de modernité. « Bridor avait accumulé un certain retard, la dernière montée de version technique SAP datait de 2012. Il devenait primordial de traiter cette dette technique, qui pouvait poser problème, notamment lors de l’adaptation du SI aux règles fiscales des pays dans lesquels nous ouvrons des filiales ».

Un projet ambitieux

La direction a fait le choix de refondre le SI de Bridor, en migrant vers l’ERP SAP S/4HANA, tout en opérant la refonte de ses processus métiers. La société a donc dû assurer un double chantier : la conversion technique vers un nouvel ERP et l’audit de ses processus clés.

Elle décide pour cela de se faire accompagner par VISEO. « Nous avions déjà identifié VISEO comme candidat potentiel, car c’est un spécialiste à la fois du retail et de l’industrie, les deux activités du Groupe Le Duff, poursuit Ronan Le Janne. VISEO a également une bonne connaissance de SAP S/4HANA dans un contexte agroalimentaire. Ses équipes sont donc expérimentées et capables de nous conseiller avec pertinence. Autres points positifs, une méthodologie compréhensible et efficace, ainsi qu’une bonne adhérence avec la culture et les valeurs du Groupe Le Duff ».

L’ERP de Bridor couvre un périmètre étendu : finance, achats, ventes, production, stocks… « Nos usines fonctionnent en 24/7 et s’appuient toutes sur notre ERP SAP, qui est le cœur du réacteur de nos processus industriels et supply chain. Un système qui fonctionne donc lui aussi en 24/7 et qu’il est difficile d’arrêter. C’est pourquoi nous avons voulu faire entrer un maximum de transformation dans ce projet ».

 

Une migration hybride

À mi-chemin entre Brownfield et Greenfield, la migration hybride, dite Bluefield, permet d’opérer une migration technique vers SAP S/4HANA, sans devoir subir le poids du legacy, les données nécessaires étant réintégrées au terme des développements. « La migration hybride nous a permis de nous réapproprier notre système, de le simplifier, en redéfinissant précisément son périmètre et ses fonctionnalités », confirme Ronan Le Janne.

L’audit des processus clés et les ateliers de cadrage se sont traduits par plus d’une centaine d’évolutions métiers, dont :

  • la refonte des structures organisationnelles ;
  • la mise en œuvre de SAP COPA et du General Ledger ;
  • la mise en place du P&L Bridor et Groupe dans SAP ;
  • La mise en œuvre des processus de prévisions, planification et S&OP dans SAP IBP.

Lancé en avril 2021 par la phase de cadrage, le projet s’est poursuivi jusqu’en fin d’année 2022, pour une mise en route de SAP S/4HANA le premier janvier 2023.

« Compte tenu de la complexité du projet, cela s’est très bien passé. Une organisation stricte, une implication sans faille des métiers et une forte réactivité de la part de VISEO nous ont permis de tenir le planning que nous avions défini en 2020. Dès le 2 janvier 2023, de gros volumes d’opérations ont été enregistrés dans notre ERP SAP S/4HANA. Depuis, nous n’avons pas constaté de perte de productivité et le nombre de tickets d’incidents reste maîtrisé. C’est un démarrage bien maîtrisé et une belle réussite pour le Groupe Le Duff. »

Quelques travaux sur la partie finance ont été effectués sur le premier trimestre 2023 et un accompagnement au changement sera nécessaire pour acculturer les équipes à certaines nouvelles fonctionnalités et certains nouveaux processus. Mais le projet arrive à son terme, dans les délais et pour le budget prévu. « Un projet réussi, pour un rapport qualité / prix imbattable », conclut Ronan Le Janne. Prochaine étape, l’adoption de SAP S/4HANA Retail.

Adobe Has Acquired You

There were mixed reactions on Thursday morning when Adobe announced it had acquired Figma.

Excited press releases extolling the benefits of the “collaboration” followed the news. Dylan Field, founder and CEO of Figma, said: “There is a huge opportunity for us to accelerate the growth and innovation of the Figma platform with access to Adobe’s technology…”

The reaction from the design community has been a little less enthusiastic.

The problem for the design industry is that we’ve been here before. The acquisition of Macromedia followed a period in which Adobe tried to compete, failed to update its legacy code, lost the battle, and purchased the victor. You only need to look at the number of former Macromedia products in Adobe’s stable (zero) to see where Figma’s heading.

Figma has grown faster than any of its rivals in the last eight years. It is, of course, easier to grow when you start at zero. But there’s no denying Figma is a well-managed business and probably a good investment — if not worth the $20bn that Adobe reportedly paid.

Figma’s technology will give Adobe a leg-up in the collaborative design stakes, where it is clearly lacking. And Adobe’s resources will iron out some of the kinks in Figma, especially around typography, which is, if we’re honest, a bit hacky in places.

Adobe will provide a good home (we hope) for the Figma team, who will have the opportunity for career advancement in a much wider pool of development teams.

And, of course, Figma’s annual revenue will begin to trickle into Adobe’s vault — although it may be some time before it makes a dent in that $20bn hole.

But Adobe didn’t buy Figma for its business model, collaborative technology, team, or revenue stream. Adobe bought Figma’s users, all four million of them.

Adobe‘s approach to design software is upselling. It lures you in with free apps, and when you’re engaged, it integrates them with other parts of its ecosystem until suddenly, without meaning to, you’ve agreed to a Creative Cloud subscription.

Adobe was losing customers to a competitor. And more importantly, due to Figma’s free-use approach for individuals, it was losing young customers to a competitor. If it hadn’t bought Figma, Adobe would have needed to invest heavily in its own products while providing them to freelancers for free; that isn’t viable for a company with as many commitments as Adobe.

Yes, it is entirely accurate to say that competition drives innovation, and with fewer competing apps, there is less need for companies like Adobe to build high-quality, reliable products. However, it is also true to say that a lack of competition creates opportunities for new apps.

Somewhere out there, in a dorm room, or a basement, or on a kitchen table, someone is working on Adobe’s next big acquisition. It’s probably an AR design app; we need a few more of those.

For Figma, the next 12 months will be bright as Adobe works to retain the customers it’s bought. Within five years, you’ll probably need an Adobe Fonts subscription and a Photoshop plugin to use Figma. In ten years, it will be stored in a code archive next to Freehand.

Some designers will turn to Sketch; others will turn to Affinity; some will shrug and keep using Figma; others will shrug and keep using XD.

If an app is intrinsic to your design work, it’s probably time to switch apps. Your skills are transferable. I’ve switched apps many times; some I loved, some I just needed. I’ve never encountered an app that improved my work, although plenty have improved my mood while working.

Figma took a great approach and will continue to be great until it isn’t. Tools come and go, Adobe’s acquisitions team, it appears, is eternal.

WordPress 6.0 Lives Up To The Hype

WordPress 6.0 has been released, and another niche jazz musician will be enjoying extra Spotify royalties next month.

WordPress 6, named for latin-jazz musician Arturo O’Farrill, is the realization of a change of direction the WordPress Foundation adopted several years ago.

All versions of WordPress now power around 42% of the web. That’s approximately 810,000,000 sites. If you looked at each site for a single second, without pausing to blink, it would take you over 25 years to see the home page of each one — of course, if you factor in how long a typical WordPress site takes to load it would take well over a century.

Some people (i.e., me) have been predicting the decline of WordPress for so long that sooner or later, we were bound to be correct. And, despite its astonishing reach, there are some signs that its market share may now be in decline. Even the W3C abandoned it in favor of Craft.

Of the 1,930,000,000 sites that currently make up the web, only around 400,000,000 are active. WordPress’s long-term dominance, coupled with a stalling market share, means that a disproportionate number of abandoned sites are WordPress. With site builders like Wix, Squarespace, and Shopify taking huge chunks of WordPress’ share of new sites, WordPress is facing something of a cliff edge.

What the ill-informed naysayers (i.e., me) hadn’t counted on was that WordPress had already seen the writing on the wall and formulated a plan…

WordPress’s problem has always been its legacy code; supporting out-of-date ideas and a spaghetti-like codebase has meant a great deal of work to do anything new. As a result, the last few releases have seen great ideas stifled by labored implementation. Even the most loyal WordPress user has to admit that Gutenberg, while filled with potential, doesn’t work the way it should. However, with WordPress 6, all the work may be starting to pay off.

With version 6, the block editor in WordPress is starting to feel like a design tool that, if not perfect, is at least usable. Editing content no longer feels like you’re fighting against the UI. Most importantly, the bar for creating a site is much, much lower. WordPress 6 also offers improved performance and accessibility, both areas that have traditionally been lacking. Security is still something of an issue, but that is mainly due to the ROI for hackers that massive market shares generate.

WordPress, it seems, has arrived at two conclusions: its main competition isn’t other CMS but other site builders. To maintain its market dominance, it needs to cater not to professionals but to amateurs.

Don’t get me wrong; the WordPress ecosystem will benefit from WordPress 6, at least reputationally. New sites run by amateurs eventually become established sites run by, if not professionals, then at least knowledgeable amateurs.

OK, so WordPress probably isn’t a good choice for enterprise sites. And there are certainly better options for ecommerce. And as for SEO, well, probably best not mentioned.

But in WordPress 6, we have a free, open-source site builder that lowers the bar for making a new site. It’s a credit to the community that has persevered to produce it.

But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some great alternatives if you’re willing to shop around. Bootstrap won’t be top dog forever, and there are numerous new lightweight and powerful CSS frameworks.

If you are bored of coding with Bootstrap and Foundation and tired of using complex CSS rules, this list is for you. 

From frameworks that take a pure CSS approach to minimalist frameworks with fully customizable themes, nothing is left out. Let’s get started…

1. Bulma

Bulma is one of the most popular alternatives to Bootstrap and Foundation. It is an entirely free, open-source CSS framework that does not have a steep learning curve. No prior CSS knowledge is required to use Bulma.

When you add the variety of colors, responsiveness, and clean flexbox-based grid it offers, it’s no wonder Bulma is becoming more popular every day. Bulma is a well-documented framework that you should definitely try out.

2. UIkit

If you’re looking for a lightweight yet powerful CSS framework that can be wired with HTML and JS, Ulkit is for you. It fully supports right to left languages and has one of the best icon libraries out there.

Keep in mind that Ulkit is also easy to use. All in all, Ulkit is an excellent Bootstrap alternative that is perfect for designing web layouts for desktop and mobile screens.

3. HTML5 Boilerplate

Even though Bootstrap is relatively easy to learn, it is much more than just a front-end template. So what if you need a fully compatible JavaScript, CSS3, and HTML5 template? In this case, HTML5 Boilerplate is a good choice.

Of course, since it’s a template, this framework does not include layouts and component modules. However, if you need a reliable CSS template that offers extensive documentation, HTML5 Boilerplate is a great solution.

4. Metro UI

Metro UI is one of the most flexible CSS frameworks on the market. This front-end framework can be easily combined with JavaScript-based frameworks like Angular, React, etc.

We found Metro UI to be an excellent open-source CSS framework and a great alternative to Foundation during our testing.

5. Skeleton

As a two-in-one solution, Skeleton quickly made it on our list. This is both a boilerplate and a comprehensive CSS framework. We enjoyed customizing its 12-column grid during our testing, and we found out that it has virtually no learning curve. 

The automatic width resizing works like a charm, and the syntax is fully responsive. This is why we consider Skeleton to be an excellent Bootstrap alternative.

6. Bootflat

If you are looking for a quick way to create a web app, Bootflat is the framework you need. Bootflat’s components are built with CSS3 and HTML5, and the framework offers a comprehensive panel of color schemes for you to choose from. 

Bootflat looks and acts like a simplified version of Bootstrap. However, that doesn’t mean that this CSS framework isn’t scalable and robust. On the contrary, you can fully manipulate the size and performance of the web designs you create. 

7. Semantic UI

If you exclude the fact that Semantic UI doesn’t have the utility classes Bootstrap offers, it is a comprehensive CSS framework that you should try. The best Semantic feature allows you to write HTML code without using BEM methodologies. 

So, if you need a framework that will help you write readable codes in minutes, Semantic is the one for you. 

8. Susy

We know that most developers nowadays use flexbox and native CSS grids. Still, there’s nothing better than Susy if you need a grid system that supports legacy browsers. Although Susy is no longer maintained, it is one of the most flexible old-school grid systems. 

9. Materialize

Like most CSS frameworks on this list, Materialize is built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. 

It’s specifically designed to help you develop faster using a standard template and customizable components. As the name suggests, Materialize is based on the basic principles of Material Design.

10. Kickstart

If you need a lightweight alternative to Bootstrap, Kickstart is the CSS library for you. A great thing about Kickstart is that it doesn’t require jQuery which makes it very small. 

Of course, like a pruned version of Bootstrap, this CSS framework isn’t as robust. Still, this is an excellent choice for those who need a UI framework and a comprehensive boilerplate library. 

11. Tailwind CSS

With a fast styling process and the ultimate freedom it provides, Tailwind is extremely popular among some developers. This is a utility-first, front-end framework that is fully responsive and stable. 

Unfortunately, Tailwind CSS requires some time to learn, and it is not the most flexible choice when it comes to revising CSS rules.

12. Pure CSS

Yahoo specially developed Pure CSS to help developers create fully responsive web pages. 

We consider Pure a minimalist alternative to Bootstrap that offers every module a beginner needs (navigation menu, grid, tables, etc.).

13. PowertoCSS

PowertoCSS is on this list for a good reason. This is an ultimately responsive CSS framework that you can use to create grids and scale web apps on any platform. 

PowertoCSS is based on Modular Architecture and Scalable when it comes to design.

Unlike other CSS frameworks, PowertoCSS is very lightweight, beginner-friendly, and comes with detailed documentation. 

The coding process is simple, and we found the learning curve to be shallow.

14. Spectre

Spectre is one of the most flexible and lightweight CSS frameworks we tested for this article. 

It has a modern (flexbox) layout system; it is fully customizable and allows you to get quick, attractive results. 

15. Primer

Our last suggestion is Primer, a great open-source CSS framework. 

To be precise, Primer is more of a design system that lets you use a BEM CSS framework and create your projects quickly and efficiently.

So, even though Primer is not a CSS framework in the strict sense, it will help you use React and Figma components, icons, and advanced documentation to unify all of that.

Choosing the right CSS framework is not easy. It all depends on your personal needs and preferences as a front-end developer. 

Although Bootstrap and Foundation are still the most popular frameworks, many of the alternatives presented above will continue to gain popularity for good reasons.
